About Our Doctors

To understand the difference between a dentist and an orthodontist, first consider the difference between a general medical doctor and a cardiac surgeon, a doctor who specializes in heart surgery. The heart surgeon has completed all the general studying and training it takes to become a general doctor, but he or she has continued their studies to learn about one very particular and complex area of the human body, the heart. If you have a heart problem, who do you expect will be better equipped to treat you and bring you the best possible outcome? The heart surgeon, of course!

The same analogy applies when you compare dentists and orthodontists. Dentistry is a broad medical field that seeks to promote and assist with the health of your teeth and gums. Some common reasons to visit your dentist include regular teeth cleanings, gum disease treatment, tooth pain, crowns and bridges, cavity fillings, and discolored teeth. These are all common teeth-related concerns that can typically be handled by a non-specialist dentist.

An orthodontist, on the other hand, is a dentist who continues their training with 2-3 additional years of school and significant extra studies to specialize in the specific dental field called “dento-facial orthopedics,” aka orthodontics. This field is a subcategory of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental, jaw, or facial problems.

In addition, the specialists at Glupker Orthodontics have completed hospital residencies, gaining expertise in treating multi-disciplinary cases and cases with complex medical histories.

Orthodontics is all we do!

Dr. Timothy Glupker

dr glupkerI really enjoy coming to work and creating healthy, beautiful smiles. My staff and I are passionate in making sure your care is comfortable, friendly and fun. We feel blessed to be in the wonderful profession of orthodontics. Orthodontics is exciting because it combines art, science and technology to give each person their signature smile. We have had several past patients that have also chosen dentistry/orthodontics as their profession.

I went to West Ottawa High School then to Michigan State University. I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Michigan, (sorry but my blood still runs to the green side!) and completed my orthodontic residency at the University of Illinois after a hospital dental residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago. I am a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics.

My wife, Karen, is from Hamilton and I was a native of Holland so we were happy to return to live in this community. I have two daughters. Leslie has joined Glupker Orthodontics having finished her orthodontic residency training and my other daughter, Courtney, attends Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris. I enjoy hobby farming, motorcycles, and spending time outside, especially with my family.

Dr. Leslie Glupker

leslie gupkerI am excited to be a part of Glupker Orthodontics. Orthodontics is like a puzzle and I love making all the pieces fit together just right to make an awesome smile. Joining my father and being able to return to West Michigan is a dream come true.

I grew up in Zeeland and went to Zeeland High School. GO CHIX! I completed a major in Biology Life Sciences at the University of Findlay in Ohio. I obtained my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Indiana University School of Dentistry. After a one year hospital dental residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Ohio, I returned to IUSD for an orthodontic residency. I am a member of local, state and national orthodontic and dental societies.

I have one dog, Chloe, a wire-haired fox terrier who is obsessed with "people" food and loves to snuggle. I also have a Tennessee walking horse named Fargo who I enjoy riding, especially on fall days when the leaves are changing color. I also try to nature walk and play tennis in my free time. I am an avid reader and look forward to discussing any favorite books with patients when they come to appointments.
